The word ‘Christ’ comes over into English from the Greek word christos and the word christos is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew messiach, which comes over in English as ‘Messiah’. Literally the word christos means ‘anointed one’. In the Old Testament there were lots of christs, although not in the ultimate sense.
